Deeply Rooted: Trusting God in Every Season of Life.
Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit.
Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NKJV)
Life is full of ups and downs, and there’s only so much we can control. We all go through different seasons—times of joy and times of sorrow, moments of abundance and moments of drought. As the wise writer of Ecclesiastes puts it, “There is a time for everything” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8).
But when life gets tough, who or what do we trust to carry us through? Where do we turn when challenges arise?
Jeremiah 17:7-8 gives us a powerful reminder: those who put their trust in the Lord will remain strong, no matter the season. Like a tree planted by the waters, deeply rooted and unshaken by drought or heat, we can stand firm when our confidence is in God. He is our steady source of strength, even in life’s most uncertain moments.
What Does It Mean to Trust in the Lord?
Trusting God isn’t just about saying we believe in Him—it’s about fully depending on His guidance, timing, and provision, even when things seem uncertain. It means:
Believing He is in control, even when life feels chaotic.
Relying on His wisdom rather than our own understanding.
Choosing faith over fear in challenging situations.
A person who trusts in God doesn’t panic when hardships come. Instead, they remain steadfast, knowing that He is always working things out for their good.
How Do We Navigate the Seasons of Life?
Droughts come in many forms—financial struggles, emotional pain, career setbacks, or spiritual dryness. But just as a tree by the river never stops bearing fruit, those who trust in God continue to thrive, even in tough seasons.
Financial Drought – Instead of being consumed by worry, we continue to give, budget and spend wisely, and trust that God will meet their needs.
Emotional Drought – In times of loneliness, heartbreak, or depression, we find strength in prayer, community, and God’s Word.
Career Drought – When faced with job loss or uncertainty, we seek God’s direction, stay proactive, and trust that He will open the right doors.
Spiritual Drought – Even when God feels distant, we stay committed to reading the Bible, praying, and seeking fellowship, knowing His presence is still with them.
Stay Rooted in God, No Matter the Season
Just like a tree planted by a river, we flourish when we remain connected to God. Every season has a purpose, even the difficult ones. Whether we are in a season of waiting, growing, grieving, or celebrating, our confidence comes from knowing that God is our source. No matter what storms may come, we can stand firm, bearing fruit in every season.
